From the explanation above, it can be concluded that procedure text is text that contains commands or steps in doing something. In other words, procedure text is made to illustrate how something is done through sequential steps.


Procedure Text Characteristics

The following are the characteristics of procedure text. The characteristics below will help you recognize the difference between procedure text and other types of text.


*Using the simple present tense

*Using imperative sentences (command sentences). Example: add two spoons, cook with low heat, blend the spices, etc.

*Use action verbs. Example: add, put, turn.

*Using numbers. Example: first, second, third.

*Using conjunctions (connecting words). Example: next, then, while.

*Using adverbs (adverbs) to clarify the stages that are passed. Example: correctly, carefully, slowly, for 2 minutes, etc.


*Procedure Text Type

After recognizing the characteristics, you also need to get acquainted with the types of procedure text. Broadly speaking, there are three types of procedure text that you can recognize. Here's the explanation!


*Procedure text that describes how to operate/use something.

For example, how to use a camera, how to use a rice cooker.

Procedure text that provides instructions for carrying out certain activities.

For example, how to play guitar, how to make a brownie.

*Procedure text related to tips for living life.

For example, how to be successful in life, how to make yourself happy.


Procedure Text Structure

You may have or often read this type of text. But do you know what are the structures that build procedure text? To answer that question, take a good look at the structure of the following procedure text!


*Goal/Aim: contains the intent and purpose of the related procedure text.

*Materials: contains the materials needed to perform the steps of a procedure text. In addition to the word materials, you can also use the word ingredients.

*Steps: a list of sequential steps to complete the procedure text stages. To indicate steps, generally use numbers or words such as, first, second, finally, etc

*Result: the result of the process or steps that have been carried out.


Procedure Text Function

Any type of text, must have and occupy their respective functions. In line with its understanding which focuses on the steps to do something, the main function of this text is to describe one by one how something can be made or achieved.
